Crowns & Bridges
A complete and fully functional set of teeth is important. However, no one is immune to dental deterioration or loss, both of which have an impact on the ability, health and appearance of the smile. At Le Dentiste, we offer fixed crowns and bridges to restore badly damaged teeth or replace missing ones.
Crown and bridge: Solutions to Restore the Smile
Although teeth are hard and strong, they are also subject to disease, wear and trauma.
All these situations can lead to their deterioration or even loss. When this happens, it's important to restore a damaged or weakened tooth, or replace a missing one. This is because the presence of a tooth in poor condition or an empty space in the dentition leads to a number of problems.
The Appearance of the Smile and Chewing Ability Can Be Adversely Affected
It can also cause damage to surrounding teeth and tissues. A badly damaged tooth is likely to be abrasive, leading to wear and tear on surrounding teeth (neighbouring or corresponding teeth), while an empty space can serve as an entry point for bacteria and encourage root displacement. To avoid such consequences, in the event of tooth damage or loss, we'll suggest a suitable solution: a crown or a bridge.
Crown and Bridge: Two Options for Different Needs
- A crown: Is a custom-made ceramic protective layer bonded to a tooth whose outer structure is damaged and weakened, but whose root is still solid and viable. This solidifies the tooth, preventing it from further damage or developing bacterial infections, while restoring its aesthetic appeal and functionality.
- Bridge: Also known as a fixed bridge, it consists of a replacement tooth (sometimes two) suspended between two crowns that are attached to abutment teeth (the healthy teeth surrounding the empty space to be filled). Custom-built from a mixture of metal and ceramic, it gives the mouth a uniform, aesthetic appearance, as well as restoring its chewing ability. It also prevents adjacent or corresponding teeth from moving into the gap.
A Complete Restoration Near You
The procedure for making crowns and bridges is similar and takes two appointments. In both cases, the first step is to prepare the tooth by removing part of the natural crown to ensure a solid installation. Impressions are then taken before fitting a temporary crown or bridge to protect the oral structures while the restoration is fabricated in the laboratory. Once the restoration is complete, the dentist polishes it, removes the temporary piece and cements it to the tooth or teeth.
